Color Spotlight: Blue
Let’s talk about everyone’s favorite patterned tile combination: the color blue and natural stone! Color strongly sets the tone and vibe of a space, as it creates specific temperature and harmony relative to the area you’ve planned for it. It also allows designs to flow organically through other similar color tones. In today’s blog, we are going to spotlight some of our favorite ways of utilizing blue-patterned tiles in a home.
The Psychology of Blue
Fun fact: Blue is globally the most popular ‘favorite color’. Why is this? The color blue (and its various hues) can call to mind feelings of calmness and relaxation. It also can be seen as a sign of stability. Research has found that the color blue can reduce a person’s heart rate while increasing productivity and creativity! It is no wonder why this color is so popular in interior design.
Blue shades and tones are some of the most versatile you can bring into your space. Cooler tones are naturally soothing, while blue specifically can symbolize dependability and healing.
Installs Featuring Blue Patterned Tile
In this project below, the blue colorway of our Waterways design adds to the restful mood already created by the fireplace. It complements the blue behind the shelving, linking the environment to the tiles. The linear pattern imitates the lines on the rug and in the shelving so that it joins the space instead of overpowering it.
Here, we can see how the light blue and warm grey strokes in the Willow (Midnight Sky) create a more neutral but stylish combination. This soft pattern and coloring balances out the metal hardware and wooden countertop of this kitchen design.
This Caprice (Sapphire) Pattern feature wall creates a beautiful centerpiece for this walk-in shower. We love how the crisp color of this pattern complements the natural veining in the marble on the adjoining walls. The bright Carrara Blanco and rich sapphire come together to bring warmth and happiness into this luxury, spa-like shower.
This alcove is the perfect mix of cozy and contemporary. Our Arya pattern in the Bay Blue colorway is the ideal backdrop to allow the light wood shelving to pop. The classic pattern and almost-neutral blues make this a timeless installation that will be loved for years to come.
A stylish and unexpected way to use blue, this vanity design features a pink wall with our Wallflowers pattern in Alice Blue as a wainscotting. Why does this work? It utilizes color theory! Blue, Red, and Yellow/gold together create a Triadic color scheme. They create a way to include more color variety that is still well-balanced. In this case, the light pink paint and gold accents complement the blue of the Wallflowers pattern, as well as, the vanity.
Blue can also be used to make a statement. The Miabella tile ‘rug’ in Sea Glass shown below is a perfect example of this. Because blue is the color of the sea and the sky, it inherently makes us think of nature. The way it has been used in this space creates a centered feeling while grounding the other natural elements in the room.
