Our Favorite Tile Installations of 2020

We can all agree 2020 was a challenging year for a lot of us, but we have tried to find the silver lining through it all.  In the beginning of the shutdown, we were unsure how the tile industry would be affected, but to our surprise the demand for patterned tile stayed strong. 2020 was the year for many families to make their house a “home,” and it showed us the important role interior design has in our life.  Thank you for all your support over the past 12 months. Every year we come out with a list of some of our favorite tile installations from all over the country.  Let us know what your favorite space is!

1. Southern CA Shower Tile Transformation

Manhattan Beach designer, Jennifer Allison, and Battaglia Stile got creative and bold with this SoCal tile shower renovation.  They featured the sophisticated Caprice tile on the shower feature wall and played around with scale by using two different sizes.  We love how they mixed together 3 different shapes and colors to give this shower both a modern and coastal feel.

2. Tile Stairway to Heaven

Jennifer Allison and Battaglia Stile continued the use of decorative tile in this Manhattan Beach home onto the client’s stairs.  Jennifer customized her client’s staircase by utilizing 6 unique patterned tiles that range in style.  We love this staircase because it has design elements that range from modern to rustic.

3. SoCal Modern Stair Renovation

Step on up to this contemporary coastal stair riser renovation featuring 3 of our patterns on 6×6 honed Carrara.  Designer Roxy Trofin mixed together 3 collections with hues of blues and greys to create this innovative and modern tile staircase.  Patterns featured (starting from the top) are the Chapman tile series in Sky, the Talula series in Bluebell, and the Lancaster series in Azure.

4. Minimalist Bathroom Bliss

Sleek and timeless is how we would describe this blissful bathroom renovation.  You don’t always need bold colors to make a big impact in a space.  Designer Danielle Bohn featured the contemporary Evolve pattern on honed Carrara from our in-stock collection on the vanity wall to add a unique touch to this space.

5. Transitional Tile Surround

We say it all the time, but you don’t need hundreds of square feet of patterned tile to transform a space.  Custom builder, MRM Homes, proves that with this elegant and sophisticated tub renovation.  Utilizing tile rugs has become more popular and we can see why, it’s cost effective and impactful!  MRM Homes features the customizable Caprice tile on 18×18 honed Thassos under the tub.

6. Ojai Oasis

Our new favorite design combo: Rustic Modern.  LA designer, Kirsten Marie Inc, effortlessly blends together a rustic, Spanish-inspired tile with modern, matte bathroom fixtures and clean white subway tile.  We think this bathroom which features our in-stock Oasis tile on honed Carrara perfectly defines the up and coming “modern rustic” style.

7. Upstate Kitchen Update

One picture just does not do this cozy kitchen renovation justice.  Amanda Doucette completely transformed her Maine kitchen after a year of designing and planning on her own.  Amanda features our in-stock Crystal tile on 6×6 honed Carrara which we think is the perfect additional to this timeless space.

8. Butler Pantry by the Beach

Modern tile, open shelving, and sage green: 3 of our favorite things!  We always love how Blackband Design’s projects turn out, but this Orange County Butler’s Pantry renovation might be our favorite!  This butler’s pantry combines classic colors and cabinetry with the daring geometric tile to create a one-of-a-kind space.   Blackband features our in-stock Waterways tile collection in Black on 12×12 honed Carrara.

9. East Coast Traditional

There is something about a classic New England kitchen that we just love and envy!  Connecticut designer, Karen Berkemeyer keeps this kitchen traditional by utilizing white cabinetry and Carrara subway tile and adds an element of modernism with the patterned tile backsplash.  Pattern featured is the Petals tile in Blue on 6×6 honed Carrara.

10. SoCal Rustic Reno

This southern California kitchen renovation features one of our most popular collections, the Mullholland, on this backsplash wall.  Designer, Danijela Zaric, planned out every design detail in this renovation perfectly and gives a new meaning to the style “transitional.”  The Mullholland tile, from our in-stock collection, is shown in the Charcoal colorway on 6×6 honed limestone.

11. Lush Laundry Room

While doing laundry can be a menial task, we don’t think this chore would be quite as bad in a space like this!  The laundry room is often overlooked in home renovations, but adding a little but of decorative tile to it will completely transform the space, as you can see below.  Designer, Danee Bohn, features the made-to-order Alston Aliso Hex tile in the Mint colorway as the laundry room’s statement wall.
