Our West Coast Representative, Susan, is inspired by the 2019 California Super Bloom and her recent trip to the La Cienega Design Quarter which showcased stunning floral designs and colors.  Here’s her take on all things floral…

The Flower Fields in Carlsbad, CA

2019 Spring in California was all about the flowering marvel of a “Super Bloom”.  Stunning views of California wildflowers were seen roadside, on hiking trails, and all over Instagram feeds. NBC posted a spectacular aerial view of our neighboring city Carlsbad Ranch showing what looks like an abstracted chevron pattern of pinks and fuchsias.  The orange color of California poppies could be seen in photographs taken from satellites.   While you might have to wait to see the California phenomenon recur next year, you can still bring the “Super Bloom” into your home.

This floral season has inspired our designers.  The Eliana and Petal collections from the Artisan Stone Tile line are timeless and sophisticated decorative tiles that are the epitome of Spring design inspiration.

LA Cienega Design Quarter Event Recap

I recently attended an Interior Design event in Los Angeles called the La Cienega Design Quarter (LCDQ).  For 3 days, high-end showrooms on La Cienega Boulevard and Melrose Avenue showcased beautiful window displays created by well-known interior designers.  Up and down the boulevard, window’s were laden with flowers in the form of textiles, wall coverings, art and rugs.

LCDQ also hosted many panel discussions with highly published interior designers such as Martyn Lawrence Bullard, Nate Berkus and Kathryn M. Ireland.  In a panel discussion lead by California Homes Editor in Chief Susan McFadden, the question was asked, “where are we going with Farm House design and white subway tile”?  In the way of Farm House, it was affectionately said, “…’We’ll have to wait and see where Joanna Gaines takes us next…’” But in the way of tile, we were overjoyed to hear the answer that homeowners are wanting to bring color and pattern into their kitchens.

I had the opportunity to stop in Peter Dunham’s showroom Hollywood at Home and there we found the “Super Bloom” as well.  I saw a variety of home products that showcased floral designs with pinks, blues and greens.
