Ever wondered what a tile rug is and why they are a common feature in homes across the country? We’re here to help!
A tile rug is a decorative set of tiles that differs from the majority of the floor in a space. Tile rugs can be used to break up larger spaces or to add in an extra element of character and charm. What’s more, tile rugs are cohesive: they work with a wide variety of flooring types and spaces.
Today, we’re showing you the various ways you can use a tile rug. Keep reading to get inspiration for your next home project.
4 Ways to Use Tile Rugs
1. Under the Tub
If you want to spice things up under your bathtub, add a few tiles around it and your bathroom is completely transformed. It looks elegant and as you can see, only requires a small amount of patterned tile. See below for two examples of how designers added patterned tile as a rug under their clients’ bathtub.

2. Master Bath Centerpiece
If it’s not in your budget to add decorative tile throughout your entire bathroom floor, we recommend going with an eye-catching tile rug that will act as the centerpiece in the room. As you can see below, your eyes are drawn directly to the centerpiece tile rug. Cost-effective and also transformative!

3. Laundry Room Runner
Switch out that carpet runner for a permanent tile runner! This is a great option to add to rooms like your laundry room or guest bathroom. As you can see, Guided Home Design only had to use a small amount of decorative tile to create this tile rug and the results were stunning.

4. Down the Hall
It’s amazing how a small-scale tile rug can completely shape a room, or in these two cases-a hallway! Not many people think to add a patterned tile in their hallway but the two examples below will show you that it should be a more common addition.
