Over the years, we have been fortunate enough to form long-lasting relationships with tile dealers, interior designers, and design firms all across the country. Today, we are going to highlight a Southern California design firm that has consistently used patterned tiles from both our made-to-order and quick-ship collection. Say hello to Blackband Design, a talented group of designers in Newport Beach, CA founded by husband and wife duo, Greg and Wendy Blackband. They have been transforming spaces all around Southern California since 2003, and have been recognized internationally for their fresh and innovative style. If you have ever toured a home renovated by this power couple, then you will see that they always take a sophisticated yet relaxed approach with their design. While the homes they design range from contemporary and modern to traditional, there is always a hint of “California Coastal” style.
The Talented Faces of Blackband Design
Blackband Design firm specializes in full-home material specification and custom furnishings for new builds and renovations. They work with the best architects and builders around Orange County including Graystone Custom Builders, Brandon Architects, and Patterson Custom Homes.
Today we wanted to show you some of our favorite projects by Blackband Design that features our patterned tiles! Like we said before, each of their projects is completely distinctive but with a California coastal flair that we love! Check out their past projects below:
Bold + Beautiful Butler Pantry Design
What other way to kick off this blog then with an eye-catching butler pantry renovation! In this Newport Beach home, you can see the Waterways tile in Black on 12×12 Carrara from our quick-ship line as the backsplash in this “Midcentury Farmhouse” style space. Blackband Design mixed this geometric and bold decorative tile with a softer sage green cabinetry and classic quartz countertop to compliment this transitional pantry. We love the use of both modern and traditional elements in their client’s home!
California Cool Home Bar
Up next, we have the home bar of our dreams! This was actually the first time we ever saw our tiles in a Blackband Design renovation! This 2016 project was a full remodel in San Clemente, CA and features the Lena tile in Winter Blue on 6×6 honed Carrara. This quick-ship tile makes an appearance on the custom home bar façade and also on the stair risers leading up to the open and airy living room. Our favorite details from this design: the mix of contrasting textures and patterns to create both a modern and coastal mood.
Stairway to Beachy Heaven
While this design firm specializes in many things, they are especially great at adding pops of pattern and personality to their client’s homes. In most of their home remodels, they love to add a fun decorative tile to the stair risers. Check out the Cabrillo tile in Nightfall on 6×6 honed Carrara from our made-to-order line in this Newport Beach coastal-style home. While most of this home’s decorative style is simplistic, this patterned tile is the perfect accent to give the home personality and some color.
Stunning Shelfie
Another way that Blackband Design likes to add personality to their client’s homes is by adding custom accent walls behind the shelving. You can see the contemporary Quinn tile in Sea from our made-to-order collection in this California coastal home. The classic scalloped shaped design paired together with organic accessories, makes for the perfect transitional space!
Staycation Stairs
This might be one of the coolest projects we’ve seen our patterned tile in! A few years ago, the Marriot opened up the Lido House, a luxurious boutique hotel in Newport Beach that is a part of the Autograph Collection Hotels. Blackband Design was hired to design one of the 5 private cottages attached to the hotel. This 3-story home features the Cabrillo tile in Lunar Grey on honed Carrara as the home’s stair risers.
Powder Bath Progress
For this renovation, we are heading down the coast to the luxurious town of Rancho Santa Fe in San Diego, CA. As you can see, this powder bathroom is still in the process of being finished, but we couldn’t help sharing a sneak peak of this modern Mediterranean style space. You can see the Oasis tile in Black on 6×6 honed Carrara from our quick-ship collection pairing nicely with a neutral Zellige tile and rustic fixtures. We can’t wait to see how this bathroom looks once it’s finished!
